"Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance ... just one chance ... to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... our freedom!"

--- William Wallace, in the film 'Braveheart'

Lesson 13 - The Conviction of Our Beliefs Print E-mail

Some of what we select, we associate, with ourselves, and with other things. We form concepts about what we have selectively perceived, identified, classified, and associated.

Our concepts lead us to conclusions. We form an opinion about these conclusions. As our opinion is strengthened and affirmed by our selection of other data, we form an attitude of conviction regarding our opinion. We believe our opinion to be true.

Assuring ourselves of the (objective) truth of our belief, we become confident that we can predict the future. Since the objective order of nature is stable and unchanging, we expect that what we have found to be true in the past will continue to be true in the future. Based upon our prediction, we act.
