Page 2 of 6 But then, what of the paper that the writer needs to record his words? Few writers have even a clue about how to go to nature to even begin the processes of making paper – much less something as complex as a computer word-processor. A writer also needs a pen and ink, or pencils [see “I, Pencil”], a typewriter, or the afore-mentioned computer. Additionally, the writer will require a desk, a chair, a dry and warm room to protect him and his works from the elements, and good lighting. He will require that others prepare his meals or at least grow and prepare his food and deliver it to the corner grocery, where still others will sell it to him. Someone must also construct his bed and mattress and weave the blankets and sheets – all these and hundreds and thousands of other inter-related items that he will need and want on a daily basis, if he is to find any time for writing. And what of a dictionary and thesaurus – and the creation of an alphabet and the teaching of reading, so that others may read what he writes? What of the presses that duplicate what he writes, and the transportation that distributes what he writes, and the sellers who will make it available to his eager fans?
