The tendency to seek out the power and favor of monarchs or governments is hardly new, but it is a practice that has grown and expanded quickly in recent decades. It is hardly confined to industrialists, but is also the practice of social causes and pressure groups of every description. While we are often discouraged from acknowledging such truths, workers and politicians are just as motivated by the search and pursuit of profits as any businessman, although their vision of "profit" and self-interest may vary in its manifestation and detail. The fact is, we ALL want better things out of life: better jobs, higher wages, better houses, better cars, more and better possessions, more free time, etc, etc. We'll never get them however until we learn that the source of our benefits and enhanced standard of living is not government, but the market where all real production and distribution take place. The source - or at least the vessel - of much of the evil we have to contend with in the world today, is the imposition of naked power wielded by politicians and bureaucrats, who however well-meaning in their intent, almost invariably end up invoking the law in efforts to prevent or inhibit the flourishing and flowering of private capitalism. It is private capitalism however, and not anarchy or government capitalism, that serves humankind the best, providing for individuals the things they want and need, that make life easier and more worthwhile.
