"The proper and just purpose of government is to prevent others from harming you or taking what is yours ...

Regrettably, far too many people today view Government simply as a convenient tool for taking from others what is theirs."

--- Maximus Libras

Lesson 24 - Responsibility and Obligation Print E-mail

Often, young people will complain that their parents (or their teachers, or other adults) don't have enough faith in them to treat them as if they were responsible (as in driving the car, or staying out late, etc.)

"I'm perfectly willing to assume full responsibility," they will complain.

So the question must be asked of such young people, "Are you ready, willing, and able to meet all the costs that might arise from your (driving, staying out late, holding a job, etc.)?"

It often turns out that while the young person is more than willing to assume responsibility (say, for driving), he or she is unable to fully assume responsibility financially.

In this case, until the young person becomes financially responsible, he or she really isn't responsible in fact. He or she may be willing, but is he or she able?

In other words, if he or she had an accident (a possible consequence of driving) who would pay? Would his or her parents have to cover the bill, or would he or she be able to cover the bill him or her self?
