Page 3 of 3 All exchanges are really calculated in terms of ultimate satisfaction. Although we tend to think that we are measuring value with dollars (or other monetary currency), such indicators really do not "measure" value. What we value is not the money, but what satisfactions we can obtain by exchanging it with others. Some exchanges do not even require translation into terms of money. Affection, attention, the relationships we enjoy with our loved ones and close friends, give us psychic satisfaction and cannot easily (if at all) be judged or valued in a monetary manner. Political power, control, and favors also have percieved value to those who desire them, and who trade in such currency. Money may be useful in currying political (government) power, but its exchange is not always needed, or even always desired. Go to next lesson ...>>
